Teaching Finance Through Real Research

We started piraventozo in 2018 because we couldn't find educational programmes that taught financial analysis the way it's actually done in practice. Most courses were either too theoretical or focused on quick-win strategies that don't work long-term.

So we built something different. Our approach centres on fundamental analysis – the kind of deep research that institutional investors rely on, made accessible for individual learners who want to understand companies beyond the surface numbers.

What We Actually Do

Our programmes teach you to analyse businesses the way professional researchers do – starting with financial statements, moving through competitive positioning, and ending with valuation frameworks that make sense. No shortcuts, no magic formulas. Just systematic thinking applied to real companies operating in Australian and international markets.

Research Methods

Learn to read annual reports, interpret cash flow statements, and spot the metrics that matter most. We cover the analytical techniques used in equity research divisions.

Industry Context

Understanding a company means understanding its sector. We examine competitive dynamics, regulatory environments, and structural trends that shape business performance.

Valuation Skills

Master DCF modelling, comparable company analysis, and precedent transactions. These aren't abstract exercises – they're tools for making investment decisions with confidence.

How We Teach Differently

Most finance education falls into two camps: academic theory divorced from practice, or trading strategies that promise quick returns. We think both approaches miss the point. Real investment skill comes from understanding businesses deeply.

Case-Based Learning

Every concept is taught through real company examples. You'll analyse actual businesses listed on the ASX and international exchanges, working through the same process that equity analysts follow. This means reading real financial statements, not simplified textbook versions. It's challenging, but it's what builds genuine competence.

Cohort Structure

Our programmes run in small cohorts that start in September and March each year. This isn't self-paced online learning – you'll work alongside other students, discuss your analysis, and get feedback on your approach. The collaborative environment mirrors how research teams actually function in professional settings.

Who Teaches Here

Our instructors come from equity research backgrounds at Australian financial institutions. They've spent years analysing companies professionally, and they know how to explain what matters and what doesn't.

Siobhan Kelleher, Senior Instructor specialising in fundamental analysis

Siobhan Kelleher

Senior Instructor – Financial Statement Analysis

Siobhan spent twelve years as an equity analyst covering retail and consumer sectors for Australian institutions. She specialises in teaching cash flow analysis and working capital dynamics – the parts of financial statements that often reveal more than headline earnings.

Naomi Svendsen, Programme Director with expertise in valuation methods

Naomi Svendsen

Programme Director – Valuation Methods

Naomi built DCF models for emerging companies during her time in investment banking, then moved to buy-side research where she focused on industrial and materials sectors. She teaches valuation frameworks and industry analysis with particular attention to Australian market conditions.

Our Teaching Principles

These guide how we design programmes and work with students.

Depth Over Breadth

We'd rather you master fundamental analysis thoroughly than sample dozens of different investment approaches superficially. Real skill comes from repeated practice of core techniques.

Realistic Expectations

Financial analysis is intellectually demanding work that takes time to learn. We're honest about the effort required and don't promise shortcuts or guaranteed outcomes. What you get is systematic training in proven methods.

Professional Standards

Our curriculum reflects how research is actually conducted in institutional settings. The analytical frameworks and reporting structures we teach match what you'd encounter in equity research roles.

Australian Focus

While fundamental analysis principles are universal, we emphasise Australian market context – from AASB accounting standards to industry structures that shape local companies. This makes the learning immediately applicable for students here.

Next Programmes Start September 2025

If you're interested in learning fundamental analysis properly, our next cohort begins in September. Enrolment opens in July. Get in touch if you'd like more information about programme structure and prerequisites.
